Executive Team last met October 14 and a focus of the meeting was personnel recruitment practices to increase the diversity of Chemeketa employees. Research shows that students who relate to role models in the classrooms and hallways of their college are more likely to persist in their education. Our Human Resources department is pursuing a number of initiatives so that the demographic profile of our staff more closely matches the demographics of our student body and community. They are –
- Working closely with WorkSource Oregon and the Veterans Department to urge veterans to apply for Chemeketa jobs.
- Using Chemeketa social media and the career center to increase awareness of job openings in the college community
- Connecting with the Hispanic community at job fairs
- Examining how the use of minimum qualifications versus preferred qualifications affects the diversity of our applicant pools
HR staff and our Diversity Officer will continue to work with screening committees to make diversity a priority in our hiring practices.
