On Thursday, June 8, Chemeketa welcomes Wayne and Nicole Maines, the father and daughter featured in this year’s Chemeketa Reads book Becoming Nicole: The Transformation of an American Family by Amy Ellis Nutt.
Becoming Nicole highlights the true story of a transgender girl, her identical twin brother and one family’s journey of understanding and compassion.
Because of her landmark discrimination case ruling, Nicole and her family have become activists for transgender rights, being featured on the HBO documentary The Trans List, NPR’s Fresh Air and the 27th GLAAD awards, among other programs.
Wayne and Nicole join us for both daytime and evening presentations, book signings and Q&A sessions at the Salem campus. These events are free and open to the public.
