The Mid-Willamette Valley is preparing to host a large number of visitors coming here to witness the eclipse. A task force is developing plans to prepare Chemeketa for the event. Here is what they have determined so far –
Prior to the Aug. 21 Event
- We will not promote Chemeketa as a location for the public to view the eclipse on August 21. There are plenty of other locations who have been preparing far in advance to accommodate guests.
- We are organizing facilities and public safety staff to take extra measures to secure our property the weekend prior to the eclipse.
- Pick up your free eclipse viewing glasses in the Marketing & Student Recruitment office (Building 2, Room 208) while supplies last
Day of the Eclipse
Monday, August 21, will be a paid non-duty day for classified and exempt employees. This decision was made due to the uncertainty of traffic and safety on the roads and in response to predictions made by state and local authorities.
The August 21 non-duty day will be exchanged for the December 21 date originally listed as a paid non-duty day. A new calendar will be prepared and posted to Employee Dashboard. We will be working with Deans and Directors of all college owned properties to determine staffing needed to keep our property safe and secure. Further information will be going out in the coming weeks.
