It was July 1994 when Andrew Bone became a salaried employee at Chemeketa. Twenty-three years and five months later, Andrew will wrap up a distinguished career when he retires November 30. Over sixty colleagues and the members of the Chemeketa Board of Education gathered  the evening of  Wednesday, November 15 to thank Andrew.

President Julie Huckestein addressed Andrew in front of the crowd sharing, “Andrew, working with you all these years has made me a better person.”

Board of Education Chair Ken Hector also paid tribute, “Your contribution has helped make Chemeketa one of the most respected community colleges in America.”

Andrew responded to the audience that he recalled a now-retired faculty member used to describe Chemeketa as “the first church of the second chance.”

Andrew said, “That just doesn’t apply to students. That applies to me too. Thank you.”
