At a special Board of Education meeting held March 11, it was announced that Dr. Jessica Howard has been selected to serve as Chemeketa’s 11th President/CEO.
Jessica Howard, Ph.D., currently serves as Campus President for Portland Community College’s Southeast Campus. She previously served as the Vice President of Academic Affairs at San Antonio College in San Antonio, TX.
Dr. Howard earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Performance Studies at New York University in New York, NY; a Master and Bachelor of Music in Music Theory and Bachelor of Arts in English from Rice University in Houston, TX; and an Associate of Arts from San Antonio College in San Antonio, TX.
She has taught part-time at a community college and a university, and held a full-time position as a high school fine arts director. After earning a full-time community college teaching position, she moved up the ranks as a department chair, associate professor and vice president.
“I am honored and delighted to serve as the next President of Chemeketa,” said Jessica. “It is a privilege to join this college, which is distinguished for its outstanding programs and services, excellent faculty and staff, and commitment to creating economic vitality throughout the region and success for all students.”
Jessica will start on July 8, 2019 and Julie’s last day will be July 7, 2019.
“Dr. Howard’s proven leadership and personal dedication to student success, access, and inclusion for all students makes her a perfect fit for Chemeketa,” said Board Chair Neva Hutchinson. “It was clear from the feedback that we received from the community, faculty and staff that Dr. Howard is the right person to lead us as we enter the next chapter of Chemeketa’s history.”
