Chemeketa Speaks!

Chemeketa reads, writes and even sweats- it’s about time Chemeketa speaks!

Chemeketa’s Communications Department is hosting an inaugural public speaking competition, Chemeketa Speaks! for current Chemeketa students on Saturday, June 1 from 9 am-2:30 pm.

This event allows our students to demonstrate their public speaking skills to a panel of judges that includes local elected officials and other communication professionals. Cash prizes will be awarded. It is also an opportunity to broaden and deepen our links with the community while fostering student development.

Anyone from the Chemeketa community is welcome to come as an audience member and to cheer on our student speakers.

How students can participate

All current Chemeketa students are invited to compete. Speakers will give a 5-7 minute informative speech on a topic of their choosing (visual aids are optional and computers are available). All speakers will participate in the first two preliminary rounds and finalists will deliver the same speech in a final round.

Cash prizes will be awarded: $200 for first place and $100 each for second and third.

To compete, students can email debbie.hornibrook@chemeketa.edu with their name, contact information and a message that they intend to compete. Then students can show up between 9-9:30 am on June 1 at the Chemeketa Auditorium ready to speak.
