On Tuesday, May 21, Chemeketa recognized the efforts faculty and staff have made to make textbooks and course materials affordable for students at the second annual Affordable Learning Recognition Ceremony.
Presenters Tim Rogers and Meredith Schreiber reflected on Chemeketa’s of work toward lowering course material costs.
“I have the honor of presenting what we’re doing at conferences and other community colleges always say ‘that wouldn’t work at our college’,” said Meredith.
Five years after a ‘Textbook Sticker Shock’ presentation during Inservice, Chemeketa is now at the point where it has its own press and faculty and staff dedicated to making college more accessible to students.

Projects like centralizing the Lending Library impacted more than 1,600 students saving them an estimated $300,000. “How can people argue about saving money for students?” asked Julie. “I hope you’re inspired to keep this going.”
