50 ways to celebrate our 50th

Just a few short months before Chemeketa kicks off it’s 50th Anniversary year. There are many ways to help the college celebrate this momentous occasion.

For Our Students

  • Volunteer at a language conversation table
  • Purchase a wreath from the Athletics Holiday Wreath Sale (Winter)
  • Donate $50 to the Chemeketa Foundation (or sign up for monthly payroll donations)
  • Donate food and other supplies to the Chemeketa Food Pantry
  • Have lunch with a student
  • Attend Chemeketa’s Commencement Ceremony
  • Browse the hanging baskets at the Horticulture Plant Sale (Spring)
  • Pick up a few orphaned pots at the Ceramics Sale (Spring)
  • Learn about the college’s different student support services (tutoring, study skills, counseling, etc.) and direct students in need of assistance to them
  • Visit another campus or center
  • Go wine tasting at Chemeketa Cellars and join the Wine Club
  • Attend academic program events like the Vis Com Portfolio Show, art exhibit, music concert and more

For Each Other

  • Make a new employee feel welcome
  • Bid on an item at the Holiday Social
  • Bring a snack to share with your office
  • Have lunch with a colleague
  • Make a purchase at the bookstore
  • Read this year’s Chemeketa Reads book, “The Best We Could Do” by Thi Bui
  • Attend a First Thursday
  • Join colleagues at a First Friday game day in Bldg. 33, Rm. 100
  • Make sure your events are getting onto the Events Calendar
  • Take time to thank a colleague who went above and beyond


In the Community

  • Drive nicely when you’re in your car with your Chemeketa parking permit
  • Talk to your favorite business about helping support Chemeketa’s 50th
  • Patronize a Chemeketa alumni-owned business
  • Take a picture with a student wearing Chemeketa gear
  • Help share and pass along events Chemeketa sponsors in the community
  • Pass along information about how to become a student when people ask after they find out you work here. Memorize the college’s main phone number (503.399.5000)

  • Wear your Chemeketa gear in public
  • Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat
  • Share pictures or posts on social media about your work at Chemeketa and what it means to you

  • Contribute an artifact to the Salem Bldg. 2 retro Chemeketa displays
