A “First-Generation College Student” is defined by neither parent having completed a Bachelor’s Degree. Over 1/3 of Chemeketa students are first-generation college students.

College Access Programs (CAMP, CCP, TRIO, TRIO Upward Bound, TRIO Talent Search & STEPS) in collaboration with Mike Evans, Dean, Student Retention and College Life, will be celebrating Chemeketa’s Inaugural First-Generation College Student Celebration, on November 7th 10am- 2pm in the Lobby of Building 2. The lobby will be with graduation cap cutouts signed by our own first-generation staff, faculty and admin.

The National First-Generation Celebration was launched in 2017 by the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) and the Center for First-Generation Student Success.

We know that in addition to our students, many faculty, staff members and admin on campus also identify as first-generation college graduates. In order to highlight and celebrate these individuals, we would like to invite employees who are first-generation college graduates to please complete a short survey and share your story.

That survey is available here.
