Wireless Network Acceptable Use Standards

All users of Chemeketa’s wireless network are responsible for understanding the acceptable use of the college’s wireless network as described below.

Service Expectations

The wireless network is intended as a supplement to the wired network and for use with portable electronic devices; it is not intended to be a user’s sole connection to the network. The wireless network should not be expected to provide the same quality of service as the college’s wired network infrastructure. When reliability and performance are critical, the Chemeketa’s wired network infrastructure should be used.

User Expectations

Use of the Chemeketa wireless network must comply with college policies and guidelines as well as federal, state, and local laws. Use of the wireless network for college business must follow applicable college policies and guidelines for data use and handling.

Users of the wireless network may not use a wireless-enabled device or wireless access point to provide access to the wireless network, wired network, or the Internet. Users of the wireless network may not use a wireless-enabled device or wireless access point to extend the college-approved coverage areas of the wireless network or to avoid charges for connection to the college’s wired network infrastructure.

Technical Support

Chemeketa does not support private wireless devices or the use of computing equipment—other than college-owned equipment—within the wireless network. Limited configuration instructions for wireless network access, lists of compatible vendor hardware, and basic user instructions for various operating systems are available through the Information Technology Help Desk.

Compliance

This standard applies to all users of Chemeketa’s wireless network including employees, students, guests, outside contractors, vendors, and other agents. All users of the wireless network are responsible for understanding acceptable use of the wireless network.

As with any private device connected to the college’s network, a wireless device or wireless access point that disrupts the services provided by the college, or behaves in such a way that the service or security of technology resources is degraded, the college reserves the right to permanently disconnect that device from the network.
